Rockets land top prospect
Another trade with the Prince George Cougars has paid off handsomely for the Kelowna Rockets.
In the summer of 2001, the Rockets acquired the rights to Chuck Kobasew from the Cougars and persuaded him to leave U.S College hockey. This summer at the WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary, the Rockets traded two-fifth round picks to the Cougars for their 1st pick in the second round. With that pick the Rockets obtained 15 year-old Madison Bowey (pronounced BAW-EE). That move by Rockets General Manager Bruce Hamilton, at the urging of his scouting staff, has now paid off.
The Winnipeg defenceman has officially committed to playing with the Rockets next season and made it official today by flying into Medicine Hat to watch tonight's game between the Rockets and the Tigers.
Bowey will suit up for the Rockets when they play the Lethbridge Hurricanes tomorrow night.
(An interview with Bowey will be posted later this afternoon or catch our pre-game show tonight on AM 1150 at 5:30 where you will hear from Rockets GM Bruce Hamilton and Bowey.)
