I am no videographer!

Here is some random video I took on the trip out east. In hindsight I should have taken more, but this thing called 'doing my job' got in the way. All joking aside, I hope you enjoy my first attempt at this. It can only get better from here! This is taken with a digital camera, not a video camera, so the image may be less than ideal.

POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 6, Cataractes 3

DOGS WIN BABY
The Saint John Sea Dogs rebounded from a 2-1 upset in Victoriaville on Saturday with a 6-3 victory in Shawinigan on Sunday afternoon at Centre Bionest in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

Saint John played a solid road game and never trailed in the contest. Stanislav Galiev opened the scoring at 7:21 of the first period. But despite the Cataractes scoring just under two minutes later, the Dogs battled hard and never fell behind.

After losing in regulation for the first time in 22-games the night before, Saint John didn’t miss a beat and played the typical high octane Sea Dogs game.

Phillips scored at 11:17 to cap off the goals for the first period. In the second, Saint John took a 4-1 lead thanks to back-to-back goals from Eric Gelinas and Tomas Jurco.

In the third, Shawinigan slowly attempted to climb back as Loik Poudrier netted his ninth of the season just 20 seconds into the fame to make it a 4-2 contest. But Galiev would not allow it to be a one-goal affair as he scored his second of the match at 9:37.

Poudrier was back at it just 22 seconds after Galiev’s goal to make it a two-goal game again. Phillips closed out the scoring at 12:14 to make it a 6-3 final in favour of the visitors.

"It was a big bounce-back game,'' Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant said about Sunday's performance to the Telegraph-Journal. "Coming in here, we looked at this as a big game with something to prove. We probably needed that loss (on Saturday) to get our best game back.''

SAINT JOHN SCRATCHES
Nathan Beaulieu missed his second straight game with what the Sea Dogs are calling a “lower body injury.” He was a surprise scratch for Saturday’s game in Victoriaville.

The other scratches were forwards Aidan Kelly and Jason Cameron.

GALLANT SPEAKS
Some post-game audio of Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant can be found by clicking on THIS LINK.

He talks about the bounce-back effect, getting ready for the playoffs, the Sea Dogs’ unreal record, rolling four lines; Huberdeau’s playing time, and a bunch of other topics. It’s a good listen.

SHAW GOES DOWN
The Sea Dogs finish the season with a 2-0 record against the Cataractes with the first meeting coming just last weekend at Harbour Station. In the two matches, the Saint John outscored Shawinigan 13-6.

Unless they meet in the playoffs, this was the final meeting between these two teams until after the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup host is announced.

This was also the Sea Dogs’ first-ever win in Shawinigan apparently.

THE BOURRET SHOW
How about Gabriel Bourret this weekend? He played quite well in Saturday’s game but was a real star in Sunday’s match. The defenseman record three assists in the tilt en route to second star honours.

The second-year Sea Dog has really taken his play up a notch of late, especially with the absence of Nathan Beaulieu over the past two contests.

Bourret now has eight goals and 23 assists in 55 games this year.

BEAUREGARD VS DONNELLY
Decent tilt between Alexandre Beauregard and Dillon Donnelly in the first period.

GAUTHIER HURT?
No clue what happened to forward Danick Gauthier but, according to News 88.9, he was not on the bench in the third period. There was no obvious signs of Gauthier suffering an injury at any time in the game.

Defenseman Eric Gelinas was also a bit wobbly after taking an awkward hit at the blue line in the third period. He headed back to the bench favouring his hip area after a visit from Sea Dogs athletic therapist Jeff Kelly. He would return to the match.

BOURNIVAL HURT
With just a few weeks left in the regular season, the Cataractes lost their captain to injury in the first period of yesterday’s game. Montreal Canadiens prospect Michael Bournival suffered an undisclosed injury at some point in the first 20 minutes and did not return.

The Shawinigan newspaper L’Hebdo du St-Maurice is reporting that Bournival will be out at least two weeks.

Bournival has 28 goals and 36 assists in 56 games this year.

QUICK HITS
According to our boy Rick from McKeen’s Hockey Magazine, there were roughly 30 NHL scouts at yesterday’s game… Michael Kirkpatrick has now gotten a point in nine straight road games… Phillips had two goals and two assists. He went an ugly 4/17 on faceoffs… Stanislav Galiev and Eric Gelinas each led Saint John in the shots department with five each… Loik Poudrier, who had two goals, lead the Cats in shots with six… nothing came out of the Huberdeau vs Jonathan Racine sideshow. The two got in a scrap last weekend at the Station after Racine put a cheap hit on Huberdeau… speaking of Huberdeau, he remains third in the QMJHL scoring race with 91 points… Shawinigan has now lost four straight games and are 5-5-0-0 in their last 10… Saint John closes put their road trip with a 2-1 record… to relive the game, check out the SN Live Blog Replay… Gabriel Bourret was the News 88.9 Top Dog.

RANDOM THOUGHTS
  • The Shawinigan media has not cried over the loss yet, nor have they claimed that Saint John only won this game because the Sea Dogs rigged the entry draft.
  • Another rough game for Cataractes goaltender Gabriel Girard against Saint John.
  • Galiev now has twice as many goals as he did last season.
  • The Cataractes have a nicely designed website.
  • The trade deadline sucked.

NEXT GAME
The Sea Dogs will hoist the Rivalry Cup for the first time this Friday at 7:30 pm at Harbour Station as they take on the Moncton Wildcats.

Born This Way - Lady Gaga | Music Video and Lyrics

The Mother Monster Lady Gaga just released a Monster music video of her newest Monster single, "Born This Way" which is already topping music and radio charts across the world.

It's almost like a mini movie with all the story-telling in its first part and its length - whew! 7 minutes and 20 seconds!

Oh well, I am a monster! I enjoyed it - so much! Another great job Mama Monster! :D

I am loving Lady Gaga more recently especially after her sweet conversation with her little monster Maria Aragon on the phone. :D

Check out the Monster video below:

Born This Way - Lady Gaga Lyrics

[Intro]
It doesn't matter if you love him,
Or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
'cause you were born this way, baby

[Verse 1]
My mama told me when I was young
We are all born superstars

She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on
In the glass of her boudoir

"there's nothin wrong with lovin who you are"
She said, "'cause he made you perfect, babe"

"so hold your head up girl and you'll go far,
Listen to me when I say"

[Chorus]
I'm beautiful in my way
'cause god makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

[Post-chorus]
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born-
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don't be a drag - just be a queen
Don't be a drag - just be a queen
Don't be a drag - just be a queen
Don't be!

[Verse 2]
Give yourself prudence
And love your friends
Subway kid, rejoice your truth

In the religion of the insecure
I must be myself, respect my youth

A different lover is not a sin
Believe capital h-i-m (hey hey hey)
I love my life I love this record and
Mi amore vole fe yah (love needs faith)

[Chorus]
I'm beautiful in my way
'cause god makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born this way
Baby I was born this way
Ooo there ain't no other way
Baby I was born-
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

[Bridge]
Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, chola descent
You're lebanese, you're orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
'cause baby you were born this way

No matter gay, straight, or bi,
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Chola or orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

[Chorus]
I'm beautiful in my way
'cause god makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

[Outro]
I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way hey!

I was born this way hey!
I was born this way hey!
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way hey!

Penshoppe Summer 2011 Ad Teaser Video | Solenn Heussaff, Akihiro Sato, Bea Soriano, Ygor Pignatari

Penshoppe's newly released Summer 2011 ad teaser is telling us that Summer has arrived!

A day before March 2011 opens, Penshoppe uploaded on Youtube a sneak peek of its ad campaign for Summer 2011. Featured on the video are super hot models Solenn Heussaff and Akihiro Sato who were both part of the most recent season of Survivor Philippines.

Also part of the ad are Penshoppe models Bea Soriano and Ygor Pignatari.

Check out the teaser of Penshoppe's Summer 2011 Ad below:

Things that make go hmm...

  • The most interesting interview of the Central Division road trip came from Kootenay Ice General Manager Jeff Chynoweth when it came to attendance in Cranbrook. He's not happy, and do you blame him? Acquiring one of the most dynamic player in the WHL yet you are hovering under the 25 hundred mark for home games? I feel Chynoweth's frustration. During our interview he could have painted a rosie picture that all is well in 'Kootenay Country', but like his late father Ed, Jeff told it like it is and you have to appreciate that from a general manager that doesn't get the credit he deserves for his teams successes over the years. He won't win many friends in Cranbrook by his comments, but does he have anything to lose?
  • The Rockets scored 38 goals in the month of February. The line of Geordie Wudrick, Colton Sissons and Evan Bloodoff scored 21 of those 38 goals. Sissons had 14 points (7+7=14), Wudrick had 12 points (7+5=12) and Bloodoff had 11 points (7+4=11). Essentially that line was responsible for 55% percent of the Rockets goals during the month.
  • You have to give the Swift Current Broncos and their fans credit for coming out under the circumstances. February was a disaster for that team, yet despite the calls for head coach Mark Lamb's head, they are still coming out to watch. Lamb isn't the problem though in Swift Current. Axing the coach is always the fans first response. It's nonsense. As an outsider, it clearly looks to me as if the Broncos were a weak bunch mentally and let the Cody Eakin trade affect them greatly. Yes, injuries were a factor in the teams slide, but the Broncos were touted as having one of the best forward units in the league heading into the season regardless of whether Eakin returned to junior. I'm hoping they make the playoffs, I really am. I will admit it though, I don't like their chances.
  • I asked Eakin about the Broncos slide since he was traded. "It's tough to see that. Obviously I know those guys, the coach and the management. When we played them we had a hard time with them and it wasn't a push over game. I think a couple of injuries are holding them back right now. If they can make a push right now...like I said they are a hard team to play against and if they can get back into the playoff spot they could give whatever team they face all they can handle".
  • Get healthy Brett Bulmer! Line-mate Shane McColgan misses ya.
  • The Everett Silvertips can spin it, but the Red Deer Rebels clearly won the trade that saw Byron Froese move to Red Deer for forward Landon Ferraro. Even if Ferraro would have remained healthy, Froese had a better season. Over 30 goals for Froese is no surprise. He scores goals and has always been a point producer. Will he be a better pro that Ferraro? Maybe not, but from a Rebels perspective, who cares? Froese's greatest accomplishment may have been his ability to take a back-seat role to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The 17 year-old receives all the media attention - and rightfully so - but Froese is a good teammate by just going on the ice and producing.
  • Speaking of trades, I have to say it after biting my tongue for a couple of weeks now. The Rockets were the winner in the Geordie Wudrick/Stepan Novotny deal. Wudrick has scored big goals for the Rockets this season, including four terrific shootout goals that are lost among the 36 he's scored this season . Technically he has 40 goals....ya, ya, shootout goals don't count but you get the idea.
  • Wudrick will play in his 100th game with the Rockets Wednesday night in Kamloops. Wudrick has 55 goals and 84 points in a Rockets uniform. Pretty good return if you ask me. His nine goals in that opening round playoff series last year against Everett was one of the main reasons why the Rockets provided an upset.
  • In his last 24 games, Wudrick has 17 goals. By comparison, the leading point getter in the league - Medicine Hat's Linden Vey - has 15 goals in his last 24. Tyler Johnson of Spokane has 16 goals in his last 24 games. The only players to out due Wudrick is Chilliwack's Ryan Howse (24 goals in his last 24 games) and Vancouver's Brendan Gallagher (18 goals in his last 24).
  • The Vancouver Giants lost just four of 11 games in February, for a total of 14 points earned. The Rockets lost five times and once in a shootout in the 13 games they played for a total of 15 points in February. The Kamloops Blazers also earned 15 points during the month. Chilliwack and Prince George each earned 11 points during the month.
  • The Red Deer Rebels organization has struck a cord with young fans. The upper seating area at the Centrium Friday night was rocking with young kids enjoying the game. That's huge in the long term future of the franchise. I noticed a similar presence in Calgary, but not so much in Cranbrook.
  • One of the benefits of having a video screen on the score-clock is the ability to show the fans in the stands, particularly the young ones that get a kick out of seeing themselves on the 'big screen'. Simple concept really in Red Deer, where a gentleman with a mic during the intermission holds a cheering (shouting) match involving the two sides of the arena. The kids eat it up.
  • The Red Deer Rebels organization hasn't made it official, but they get my nod if they bid for the 2013 Memorial Cup. Great city, solid building and everything they host is nothing but successful. If the Rockets bid as well, I withdraw my endorsement of Red Deer.
  • Rockets rookie defenceman Damon Severson had his ears lowered on the weekend. No big deal for a junior player to get his haircut on the road right? Well, Severson receives his haircut from his grandma. His grandma watched games on the Alberta road trip and brought her scissors and other hair cutting tools with her. Severson tells me his grandma has always cut his hair. I wouldn't have dared let my grandma cut my hair as a kid. She would have given me a 'pig shave'. Remember that term? A 'pig shave' is having your hair cut extremely short. Maybe it's an old Saskatchewan term? I think the proper term used now-a-days is 'buzz cut'.

BACK TO BUSINESS

SN RECAP
FINAL: Sea Dogs 6, Cataractes 3

SHAWINIGAN, Que. – After a rough outing in Victoriaville on Saturday night, the Saint John Sea Dogs redeemed themselves in Shawinigan on Sunday.

Stanislav Galiev and Zack Phillips each had a pair of goals as the Sea Dogs cruised past the Cataractes 6-3 at Centre Bionest in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. Eric Gelinas and Tomas Jurco also scored for the winners while goaltender Jacob DeSerres made 27 saves in the victory.

It was a much better game by the Sea Dogs than the one they put forward on Saturday against the Tigres. Saint John battled hard for most of the game and displayed their typical offensive display, putting up six goals on 38 shots.

Shawinigan goaltender Gabriel Girard was pulled after allowing three goals on 15 shots. His replacement, Alex Dubeau, didn’t do much better as he let in three goals on 23 shots.

It was the Cataractes’ fourth straight loss and their second defeat against Saint John in eight days. The Sea Dogs swept the season series by winning both contests and outscoring Shawinigan 13-6.

Loik Poudrier scored twice for the home squad and Jean-Francois Plante added a single marker. Shawinigan was able to hang around with the Dogs until the second where Saint John exploded for three goals.

This games ends the Sea Dogs’ three-in-three road trip. Despite the loss yesterday, the team still managed to pick up four-of-a-possible-six points.

FIRST PERIOD
Just a few minutes in, Anton Zlobin set up Maximilien La Sieux beautifully and went alone on Sea Dogs goaltender Jacob DeSerres. But DeSerres stood tall in his crease and stopped the Cataracte on the short break.

Mike Thomas created the first legit scoring opportunity for Saint John. He stood along the boards and centered the puck for Stephen MacAulay in the crease. MacAulay had an open cage but was held up nicely by Dillon Donnelly in the crease.

Donnelly and Alexandre Beauregard had a great scrap in the neutral zone at 5:09. Both players got some good shots in before Donnelly threw Beauregard to the ice.

DeSerres made a minor turnover behind the goal a few minutes after the fight. Ryan Kavanagh and his offensive talents were at the side of the net trying to jam the puck but couldn’t.

Stanislav Galiev opened the scoring at 7:21. The Russian broke loose from along the side boards and riffled the puck up and over Shawinigan goaltender Gabriel Girard to make it 1-0 Sea Dogs.

But the Cataractes would tie the match at 9:08. Pierre Durepos sent a blind pass behind the net and was picked up by Yannick Veilleux who walked out in front and fired a backhand shot on net. DeSerres made the stop but couldn’t stop Jean-Francois Plante who buried the disc to tie the match.

But Saint John would respond at 11:17. Zack Phillips came across the line and fired a wrist shot from the top of the dot that beat Girard to make it 2-1 Dogs.

Dave Lebrecque high sticked Ryan Tesink at 13:12, giving the Dogs a four-minute power play. Michael Kirkpatrick looked like he had a step on the Shawinigan defense a few minutes into the man advantage but couldn’t get a good shot off. Then, Scott Oke and Stephen MacAulay were both stopped in the crease on multiple chances.

Shots in the first period were 11-10 Saint John.

SECOND PERIOD
Donnelly almost committed a foul as he walked through his own crease and put the puck right at Girard’s feet. He would recover luckily and saved himself an embarrassing moment. After that, nothing happened for several minutes as the puck went back-and-forth, occasionally getting stuck in the neutral zone.

Finally, Gabriel Lemieux had a decent opportunity for the Cataractes as he fired a point shot through some traffic but DeSerres was there to make the stop.

The Sea Dogs made it a 3-1 game at 11:14. After a bit of a scramble in the Shawinigan crease, Gabriel Bourret sent the puck to Eric Gelinas at the point. The New Jersey Devils prospect fired a half-slap shot that went through the legs of Girard. Alex Dubeau replaced Girard in the Cats crease following the marker.

Lemieux had another blast a few minutes but hit his own player in front acting as a bit of screen.

Things got worse for the Cataractes at 13:31. Bourret sent a point shot on goal that was stopped by Dubeau but he couldn’t hold the rebound. Jurco was at the top of the crease and fired a backhander past the netminder to make it a 4-1 Saint John lead.

The Seas Dogs start edto completely dominate the play after the goal. Ryan Tesink sent a nice pass to Beauregard in front but was robbed by a quick Dubeau. Then, Phillips had an open shooting lane at rim of the circle but blasted one just high.

Dubeau almost cost his team a goal later on in the frame as he was caught out of his net. Jurco threw the puck in front for Steven Anthony who had an open cage but he was held up by a Shawinigan defenseman.

Shots in the second stanza were 15-9 Sea Dogs.

THIRD PERIOD
Just 20 seconds into the third, Zlobin was behind the goal and sent a perfect pass to Loik Poudrier in the slot. Poudrier fired a wrist shot that beat DeSerres glove side to make it a two-goal game.

A scary moment took place just after the marker as Gelinas took an awkward hit at the blue line and left the ice favouring his hip area. He would later return to the game, though. Soon after the hit, Kirkpatrick caught the Cataractes on a turnover but sent the shot high and over the goal.

Kirkpatrick was called for hooking at 4:59. On their first power play of the match, the Cataractes didn’t have much of a showing and failed to generate any dangerous scoring opportunities.

At 9:37, Galiev finished off a nice passing play from Jonathan Huberdeau and Phillips. Huberdeau sent a cross crease feed to the Washington Capitals prospect and sent the disc home to make it a 5-2 game.

But Shawinigan kept on coming. At 9:59, Poudrier went high shot blocker side on DeSerres, netting his second of the period to make it a 5-3 match.

Jason Seed took a penalty at 10:30, giving the Cats a crucial power play opportunity. They had some decent pressure going on until Peter Sakaris took a holding penalty at 12:08, giving way for some four-on-four action. The penalty would prove costly as Phillips scored six seconds later on a shot from the top of the circle that beat Dubeau high glove side. That made it a 6-3 affair.

Later on in the period and the penalty long expired, Anthony was sprung on a breakaway but sent his shot wide of the cage. Anthony had another chance later on in close but was stopped, then Scott Oke fired the disc just high and over the net. But none of those opportunities would matter as Saint John went on to a 6-3 victory.

Shots in the final frame were 12-11 in favour of the Dogs.

Saint John went 0-for-3 on the power play while Shawinigan went 0-for-2.

NOTES: See Sea Dogs Postscript tomorrow.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. – After suffering just their sixth regulation loss of the season, the Saint John Sea Dogs won’t have any time to think about yesterday’s match as they take on the Shawinigan Cataractes this afternoon at Centre Bionest. Game time is 5:00 pm AST (4:55, News 88.9; 4:45 SN Live Blog).

The Sea Dogs’ 15-game winning streak was halted yesterday in Victoriaville as the Tigres battled their way to a 2-1 victory over the top-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League. Saint John had a difficult time playing “their” game. The Tigres were deserving of the victory and now the Sea Dogs must regroup.

How the Sea Dogs respond today will be huge. It was unlikely that Saint John would go undefeated all the way to the MasterCard Memorial Cup, and they will need to know how to bounce back after loses. The Dogs have only lost two straight games all year and that was way back in September – with one if those loses being in a shootout.

With nine games left until the post-season, there are still things for Saint John to improve on. The squad is still struggling to play a full 60 minutes, something that has been apparent in the first two games of this three-game road venture through Quebec.

Saint John will face possibly their stiffest test on this road trip today in Shawinigan. With a record of 37-19-2-1, the Cataractes sit seventh overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Cats played at Harbour Station last Saturday, falling 7-3 to the Dogs.

The Cataractes were on a roll after Christmas but they have now dropped three straight games and are 6-4-0-0 in their last 10 games. On a losing skid and taking on the best team in the league, Shawinigan will surely be ready for this contest.

NOT LOVING THE SHAW
This is the Sea Dogs’ first appearance at Centre Bionest since October 3, 2009. Saint John fell 5-4 in overtime that night.

A tweet by Jean Deschesnes, who covers the Cataractes, says that the Sea Dogs are 0-5 in Shawinigan all-time. They are 0-4 at the old Jacques Plante Arena and 0-1 at the shiny new Centre Bionest.

2012
Unless these two teams meet in the playoffs, this will be the final meeting between the two until after the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup hosting duties are awarded. Saint John and Shawinigan are considered the favourites to host.

The Sea Dogs wrecked the Cataractes 7-3 last Saturday at Harbour Station. Now on the home ice, Shawinigan will be looking to get some revenge.

The media reaction after this game could be interesting as the Shawinigan media has had some bizarre arguments about why Saint John should not be awarded the tournament.

SAUVE SENT DOWN
Yann Sauve made his presence known on the Vancouver Canucks blue-line over the past few games, but with the teams inured defense core finally starting to return, the former Saint John Sea Dog was returned to the American Hockey League’s Manitoba Moose earlier this week.

"It was real fun, a good experience," Sauve said to the Winnipeg Free Press Wednesday. "For sure the pace is faster but I think I got a tempo going and I think I stepped up my game a bit. I had to, otherwise they were going to eat me alive."

In three games with the National Hockey League club he had no points or penalty minutes.

SEA DOGS ON NHL.COM
The Sea Dogs were featured on NHL.com the other day. Not much of an article, but you get what you can get on NHL.com.

Here is a selection from the post:
Keep in mind that there could be as many as six players from the QMJHL taken in the first round of the 2011 Entry Draft in St. Paul, Minn., on June 24. The last time the league produced as many as four first-round NHL draft picks was 2007 when forwards Jakub Voracek, Logan MacMillan, Angelo Esposito and David Perron were all taken among the top 26 selections.

Not only could there be as many as six players from the 'Q' drafted in the opening round, but four of the players might very well be from the surging Sea Dogs.
PRE-GAME RITUALS
The QMJHL website had a video this week asking players what are the most bizarre pre-game rituals they have seen in the league. Nathan Beaulieu and Zack Phillips were both asked.

Click HERE to check out the video.

THE LATEST FROM ISS
International Scouting Services released their Top 30 Rankings for February last week over at Hockey’s Future.

Jonathan Huberdeau was the highest ranked Sea Dog, coming in at No. 13. The only other Saint John player on the list was Tomas Jurco who was ranked at No. 30. The only other player from the QMJHL to make the list was Drummondville Voltigeurs forward Sean Couturier.

THE CASE FOR HUBERDEAU
Another terrific post from Kirk Luedeke of 2011 Bruins Draft Watch. Friday, the site had an article on why the Boston Bruins may consider drafting Jonathan Huberdeau with their top pick (i.e. the Toronto Maple Leafs pick).

The post has a quote from a NHL scout:

"The biggest surprise for me this year with Huberdeau is the goal scoring. I knew he was an excellent passer from seeing him last year, but I didn't see how aggressive he was going to be at taking the puck to the net and finishing off the play. He put a lot of work into his shot, and he's playing with a lot of confidence. The puck is going in a lot for him, and I don't see that it's a fluke. He's got some real upside."- Quebec-based NHL scout for Western Conference Team
A GREAT DAY
Nice article on the QMJHL website about the Sea Dogs'  rise to the top.

"We have a hell of a team here and we plan on going to the Memorial Cup," Sea Dogs head coach Gerard Gallant said in the article. "There’s a lot of work to do, but that’s our goal."

Paquito Diaz is still alive! ABS-CBN says sorry for reporting Paquito Diaz dead! | Paquito Diaz Death Rumor

"Erratum: We inadvertently reported earlier that actor Paquito Diaz passed away. We apologize for the mistake"

This ends the 5:45PM, February 27 update of an ABS-CBNNews.com report with the heading "Paquito Diaz's family denies death rumor". The newly updated report clarifies that actor Paquito Diaz is still alive.

Courtesy of ABS-CBNNews.com here's the full report:

MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) – The daughter of Paquito Diaz on Sunday refuted a newspaper report that the veteran actor passed away.

According to the report, which came out Sunday morning, the 73-year-old actor passed away on Saturday in Albay.

Diaz's daughter, Joanna Diaz-Gallent, said her father is still alive. She added that rumors of her father's death have spread around in the past.

“It’s ok. Mag-one month na kami tinetext na he's dead na daw. Sanay na kami," she said in a text message sent to ANC.

Jean Balagtas, daughter of action film director Jose “Kaka” Balagtas and official secretary of the Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon (KAPPT), also denied reports that Diaz has died.

“Hindi po totoo ang balita. Nakausap po ng mga taga-Actors Guild si Joko at sinabi niya mismo na hindi patay ang kanyang ama,” informed Balagtas.

Joko, a son of Diaz, is a member of KAPPT board of directors.

In 2002, Diaz suffered a stroke, causing his health to deteriorate. He was recently rushed to a hospital in Bicol because of an illness.

Diaz, also known as Kits in show business, is confined at the Estevez Memorial Hospital in Legazpi City, Albay.

The actor, Francisco Bustillos Diaz in real life, was born on May 28, 1937 in Pampanga.

Diaz was introduced in the movie “Son of Fung Ku.” He has done hundreds of films but gained iconic status as the villain in many films with the late Fernando Poe Jr. –ANC and Boy Villasanta, abs-cbnNEWS.com

(Erratum: We inadvertently reported earlier that actor Paquito Diaz passed away. We apologize for the mistake)

The original news report was written at 3:25 PM and the update came out at 5:45PM. At 12:00 AM today, Pilipino Star Ngayon also reported the death of the actor which again is just a rumor. I wonder if it is the 'newspaper' that the above ABS-CBN report pertains to.

Here's a screenshot of the Pilipino Star Ngayon Report:

Hmmmmm.. Issue... Issue... I hope noone gets to be fired from work after this.

Farewell with February

  • Call Geordie Wudrick third time lucky, yet in saying that, hockey sense, not luck had everything to do with his heroics Saturday night in a 4-3 overtime win against the Calgary Hitmen. Wudrick missed two glorious opportunities to score the game winner in the dying seconds of regulation time but then fired home the decisive goal in overtime as the Rockets ended a Central Division road swing with a 3 and 1 record.
  • After scoring the tying goal late in the third period, Wudrick almost ended it by firing a laser beam in the high slot off the cross bar. Moments later, Wudrick received a perfect pass at the right face-off circle from Colton Sissons but fired the puck high over the wide open side of the net. Then in overtime, the same two players hooked up for the game winner as Sissons won a race for a puck along the end boards inside the Hitmen's zone. Sissons threw it into the slot where Wudrick out-waited the Hitmen goaltender before depositing the puck on the forehand. Game over!
  • Wudrick now has 36 goals on the season and is attempting to become the first Rockets player since Jamie Benn to hit the 40 goal plateau. Wudrick leads the team in game winning goals with eight.
  • The win was the Rockets 36th of the season, one more than all of last season. The team has 18 road wins this season, just one shy of the 19 the 2009 WHL champion Rockets won just a fewer short seasons ago.
  • Talk about insult to injury. Not only did the Rockets take two points out of the Saddledome but the father of Rockets defenceman Damon Severson won the 50-50 draw. It was worth about 7 grand.
  • The Rockets closed off four games in five nights by spending Sunday at Radium Hot Springs for a team building session. A time to relax and enjoy each others company after a wicked month of games and travel is a nice way to end off the busiest portion of the schedule.

SN POST-GAME
FINAL: Sea Dogs 1, Tigres 2

VICTORIAVILLE, Que. – All good things must come to an end.

The Saint John Sea Dogs found that out the hard way this afternoon/evening in Victoriaville, falling 2-1 to the Tigres in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play. The loss ends the Sea Dogs’ winning streak at 15 games and their unbeaten in regulation streak at 22 games.

It’s a hard pill to swallow right now. The Sea Dogs hadn’t lost a regulation game since December 30 in Bathurst and hadn’t lost in any way since a shootout defeat on January 15 against Drummondville. But losing happens. Prior to this one, the team had lost five games in regulation and two in extra time. They rebounded from those loses and they will overcome this one.

The Sea Dogs just didn’t have it in this contest. There were times when the Dogs had plenty of pressure on but then there were times when they were sloppy and unorganized, allowing the Tigres to dictate the play. It wasn’t a typical game from the top-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.

Even in the third period and down a goal, Saint John couldn’t overcome whatever problems they were having. Victoriaville put on a show, outshooting the Sea Dogs 12-3 in the final 20 minutes of play.

The only Saint John goal came from captain Mike Thomas in the second period. Goaltender Mathieu Corbeil was fairly solid once again in net, making 23 saves in the loss.

Philippe Maillet and Pierre-Luc Pelletier each scored for the winners. Antonio Mastropietro put on a clinic at times, stopping 25 shots in the win. The Tigres played an all around great game and did what they had to do in order defeat the top team in the QMJHL.

The Sea Dogs will look to rebound tomorrow in Shawinigan against the team that should give them the most trouble on this three-in-three road trek.

FIRST PERIOD
Stanislav Galiev was in close early in the first period and had his shot stopped by Victoriaville netminder Antonio Mastropietro. The rebound came loose to Michael Kirkpatrick in the crease but sent the puck wide of the cage. Soon after, Alexandre Beauregard made some nice moves to get into the danger area but missed the net high and wide.

The Tigres went to the power play at 3:15 as Kevin Gagne was called for hooking Benjamin Laliberte. But the home team had no good chances on the man advantage as Saint John appeared to have a fairly easy time killing the penalty off.

Back at even strength, Tomas Jurco centered the puck for Kirkpatrick in the crease but he was held up nicely by a Tigres defender. Victoriaville then had a pretty good chance back the other way as Carl-Antoine Delisle had a step down the wing but Sea Dogs netminder Mathieu Corbeil was there to make the stop.

A few minutes after Kevin Gagne had point his shot stopped, the Tigres would open the scoring. A point shot was blocked in front and the puck plucked down in front. Philippe Maillet was there to swipe the disc through the legs of Corbeil to make it 1-0 at 12:12.

The Dogs had a power play opportunity at 14:21 but they couldn’t get many good shots off.

Later on in the frame, Vincent Marcoux tried to jam the puck in past a fallen Corbeil but was unable to. Several moments later, Jonathan Huberdeau looked like he would enter the crease area with the puck but was taken down nicely by Tigres defenseman Samuel Groulx.

Shots in the opening frame were 11-6 Saint John.

SECOND PERIOD
Just 29 second into the period, Victoriaville opened up a 2-1 lead. Pierre-Luc Pelletier sent the puck on goal but was stopped by Corbeil. Pelletier then skated in front and picked up his own rebound to give the Tigres a two-goal lead.

The Tigres kept on coming as Maillet set up Yanni Gourde on a two-on-one but was denied by the pad of Corbeil. But Saint John would start to recover when the fourth line had a great shift, creating a solid scoring chance and holding the puck for a lengthy period of time.

The Sea Dogs finally got on the board at 6:44 as the puck somehow came out in front courtesy of Kirkpatrick. Mike Thomas was wide open  and beat Mastropietro high blocker side to make it a 2-1 game.

Thomas was then called for tripping at 6:57 but the Dogs would kill it off.

Saint John picked things up again after the penalty expired. Phillips sent a cross crease feed to Huberdeau who missed the shot. But Huberdeau regained the puck and sent it to Gabriel Bourret at the dot who was robbed by the leather of Mastropietro.

Thomas and Kevin Gagne then had a two-on-one chance but Thomas’ shot was blockered away by the Tigres goaltender. Guillaume Goulet then had a good chance for Victoriaville but had his point shot padded away by Corbeil.

After the Sea Dogs failed to get anything working on a power play at 13:01, Steven Anthony was stopped nicely in front. Then, late in the period, Bourret sent a long shot on goal that just hit the glove of Mastropietro. The puck came loose to Phillips in front but was once again stoned by the Tigres netminder. Jurco and Pelletier picked up roughing calls at 18:33 after a mix-up in the corner.

As the period ticked down, Huberdeau made a great deke to get around a Tigres defenseman and then cut in front. But Mastropietro was once again zoned in to make the stop.

Shots on the second period were 12-7 Saint John.

THIRD PERIOD
An entire fan base held their breath early in the third as Simon Despres’ arm went awkwardly into the boards on a hit. He favoured his arm/shoulder on the way to the bench but he would later return.

Delisle then had a good chance for the Tigres as he fired a backhand shot that went to the goal line and stayed out. After several minutes of blah action, Galiev was called for delay of game at 8:55 after he tossed the puck out of play. While shorthanded, Anthony and Kirkpatrick broke free on a two-on-one but Groulx went down to get a piece of the shot and deflect it out danger. Still on the power play, Hynes was robbed by a diving Corbeil.

Not long after, Anthony was called goaltender interference at 13:23. It was a joke call as a Tigres defenseman clearly pushed Anthony into Mastropietro. But the result of the penalty would not be harmful as the Dogs would kill it off.

Saint John had a big chance to tie the match at 15:35 as Pelletier was called for tripping. But the Dogs had nothing in the tank, creating no great opportunities to score.

The Dogs were completely shut down in the third. Laliberte could have put the game away late as a rebound went right on his stick but he missed the wide open cage.

Corbeil was pulled in the final minute in favour of the extra attacker. But it wouldn’t matter as the Tigres completed the upset and won 2-1.

Shots in the final stanza were an unreal 12-3 in favour of the Tigres.

The Sea Dogs went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Tigres went 0-for-4.

SAINT JOHN SCRATCHES
St. Louis Blues prospect Stephen MacAulay was given the day off and did not play. Forward Scott Oke was also a healthy scratch.

Defenseman Nathan Beaulieu was a late scratch and his status is unknown. According to News 88.9, he showed no obvious signs of injury earlier in the day.

NOTES
Michael Kirkpatrick was the News 88.9 Top Dog… the Colisee Desjardins looks great after some renovations in the off-season. They now have seamless glass and a ton of spot lights… pretty much every streak ended tonight… the lines were just a mess. They started off differently as Anthony replaced Huberdeau on a line with Phillips and Galiev. In the second period, Gerard Gallant had everybody everywhere… two body suit guys at the game. The two guys seem to be pretty popular at the games as they were featured a promo video on the Tigres’ YouTube page earlier this week… Gabriel Bourret and Mike Thomas were the only Sea Dogs with a plus rating at plus-1… great game from Antonio Mastropietro… the Tigres celebrated like they had just won Game Seven after the match, jumping on Mastropietro in a huge pile that sent the net flying against the end boards… to relive the match, check out the SN Live Blog Replay.

NEXT GAME
The Sea Dogs finish their three-game road trip tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 pm in Shawinigan.
