The Moncton Wildcats will be without two players when they take on the Saint John Sea Dogs this Sunday.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Disciplinary Prefect, Raymond Bolduc, today suspended two Wildcats for incidents which occurred during last Sunday’s game versus the Gatineau Olympiques.
The Wildcats won the game 5-4 in overtime with a total of 80 penalty minutes handed out between the two teams.
Cédric Leblanc has been suspended for four games for his hit on the beloved Hugo Laporte. After Jean-Gabriel Pageau gave the Olympiques their first goal of the game at 16:56 of the second period, Leblanc skated by the Gatineau players celebrating and gave Laporte a punch to the head.
Unlike in last year’s playoff series against Saint John, Laporte looked like he legitimately hurt his head on the fall to the ice. Le Droit is reporting that Laporte will be out for at least the next four games with a concussion.
In 23 games, Leblanc has four goals and no assists. The rookie right winger is a -2 and has recorded 47 penalty minutes this season.
Also, Tyler Howe has been suspended for a total of three games for an aggressor penalty after a “fight” with Tommy Tremblay. The play happened at 13:39 of the first period.
Howe has no goals, two assists, 45 penalty minutes, and a -3 rating in 17 games with the ‘Cats this year.
Moreover, the Wildcats also received a $500 fine.
Somewhat surprisingly, Scott Trask was not suspended for his knee-on-knee collision with star defenseman Nicolas Deslauriers. Most witnesses at the game seemed certain the play would be suspendable.
Deslauriers, a candidate for the Canada’s world junior team, left the game on crutches and is expected to be out of the lineup for some time.
Saint John fans will remember Trask from his hit on Aidan Kelly last season.
The Wildcats host the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies Saturday and then take on the Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon, also at the Moncton Coliseum, in game two of the 2010-11 Brunswick News Rivalry Cup.
